The explosion of data availability, the need to bring relevant data and knowledge to decision-making, the scarcity of technical professionals in the engineering disciplines dealing with Energy and the developments towards the Semantic Web make for a “perfect storm” of opportunity for the development of an Ontology-based Intelligent Energy Knowledge Management System.
The purpose of this brief note is to present a sketch of an architectural vision so we can begin to discuss the various tools that need to be developed over time to achieve our vision.
I present the sketch and nothing else at this point to invite contributions and comments on the architecture itself as well as the developments necessary to make the vision a reality.
The sketch is in the form that can be used in any discipline. We intend to use it in the Energy industry.

I like that the arrow between knowledge base and human queries goes both ways. When search engines can begin really learning from the way humans search, this will change the way humans and computers interact for good. Goodbye traditional keyword guessing, hello semantic search!
